Joëlle Noailly is Head of Research of the Centre for International Environmental Studies (CIES) and Lecturer in the Department of International Economics at the Graduate Institute. She also holds an appointment as Associate Professor in Environmental Economics at the Vrije Universiteit (VU) Amsterdam.

Joëlle received a Ph.D.  in environmental economics from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and worked previously for the Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis (CPB), the Dutch economic think-tank. She received a Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellowship from the European Commission in 2013 and has been awarded research grants from the Swiss Science Foundation, the Swiss Network of International Studies and the Swiss Federal Office of Energy.

Prior to joining EPFL, Gaétan was a senior research fellow at the University of Melbourne. He obtained a PhD in Economics from the Université libre de Bruxelles. Gaétan’s research interests are in the area of the economics and management of innovation. He has obtained research funding from the NBER and the U.S. NSF, among others. His work has appeared in journals such as European Economic Review, Journal of Economics & Management Strategy and Research Policy.

Laura is PhD student in International Economics at the Graduate Institute. Born and raised in Berlin, she has completed her bachelor studies in Economics at the University of Mannheim. She then did a master in International Trade, Finance and Development at Barcelona Graduate School of Economics after which she has gained some work experience at the ECB in the area of International Policy Analysis and at DIW Econ, an economic consultancy. Her research interests apart from environmental economics include endogenous growth theory, international finance and inequality.

Matthias van den Heuvel is a PhD student at the Chair of Innovation and IP Policy since February 2018. Prior to joining the EPFL, he worked as an economist in a private bank and as a researcher at the WTO. Matthias obtained a Master in International Economics in 2015 from the Graduate Institute in Geneva and Yale University. His research interests include environmental economics, international trade and applied econometrics.
